FACTS-Flexible AC Transmission System Complete Notes Download in PDF - examsfreak

A flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) is a system composed of static equipment used for the alternating current (AC) transmission of electrical energy. It is meant to enhance controllability and increase the power transfer capability of the network. It is generally a power electronics-based system.

FACTS is defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as "a power electronic based system and other static equipment that provide control of one or more AC transmission system parameters to enhance controllability and increase power transfer capability".

According to Siemens, "FACTS Increase the reliability of AC grids and reduce power delivery costs. They improve transmission quality and efficiency of power transmission by supplying inductive or reactive power to the grid.
hunt remuneration

In shunt remuneration, the power framework is associated in shunt (corresponding) with the FACTS. It functions as a controllable current source. Shunt pay is of two kinds:

Shunt capacitive remuneration

This technique is utilized to improve the force factor. At whatever point an inductive burden is associated with the transmission line, power factor slacks on account of slacking load current. To redress, a shunt capacitor is associated which draws the current driving the source voltage. The net outcome is an improvement in the force factor.

Shunt inductive remuneration

This strategy is utilized either while charging the transmission line, or when there is a low burden at the less than desirable end. Because of extremely low, or no heap and nbsp;– low current moves through the transmission line. Shunt capacitance in the transmission line causes voltage enhancement (Ferranti impact).

The less than desirable end voltage may turn out to be twofold the sending end voltage (for the most part if there should be an occurrence of exceptionally long transmission lines). To redress, shunt inductors are associated across the transmission line. The force moveability is consequently expanded relying on the force condition.

Static coordinated compensator (STATCOM); recently known as a static condenser (STATCON)

Static VAR compensator (SVC). Most basic SVCs are:

Thyristor-controlled reactor (TCR): the reactor is associated in arrangement with a bidirectional thyristor valve. The thyristor valve is stage controlled. Comparable reactance differs consistently.

Thyristor-exchanged reactor (TSR): Same as TCR yet thyristor is either in zero-or full-conduction. Equal reactance differs in a stepwise way.

Thyristor-exchanged capacitor (TSC): the capacitor is associated in arrangement with a bidirectional thyristor valve. The thyristor is either in zero-or full-conduction. Identical reactance is shifted in a stepwise way.

Precisely exchanged capacitor (MSC): the capacitor is exchanged by an electrical switch. It targets repaying consistent state responsive force. It is exchanged a couple of times each day.
